Zoysia Sod Lazer Zoysiagrass (per sq. ft.)

Lazer Zoysia (DALZ 1308) is a first‑generation interspecific hybrid zoysiagrass developed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Research turfgrass breeding program (Dallas Center), and licensed to Bladerunner Farms. The hybrid’s parentage is Zoysia minima (female parent, a genotype identified as TAES 5194‑5) crossed with the cultivar ‘Diamond’ (Zoysia matrella) as male parent. Its development focused on producing an ultra‑dwarf, super‑fine‑textured putting‑green type zoysiagrass suited for high quality golf green surfaces, while also delivering improved cold tolerance, extended fall/winter color retention, high shoot density, lower seedhead production, good shade performance, and resistance to tawny mole cricket. Lazer shows shorter canopy height, finer leaf texture, darker genetic color, and high shoot density compared to many other zoysiagrass types, especially earlier fine cultivars like ‘Diamond’. While relatively new, Lazer has been included in NTEP trials of warm‑season putting greens, and is gaining adoption in golf course greens and other high‑precision turf applications.
